Wedding Lawn in Vadodara
The open lawn at Shivmahal Palace, with the 1936 palace facade behind your stage

The lawn is the reason most families book Shivmahal Palace. It is a single uninterrupted stretch of grass in front of the palace, not a series of small partitioned patches, so the baraat can come down the drive, the mandap can sit centrally, and dinner counters can run along one edge without the three functions fighting each other for room.
How Many Guests Fit on the Lawn
Seated, with a stage, mandap and buffet counters placed, the lawn is comfortable at 700 to 800 guests. As a floating reception where people move between the stage, the food and the seating, it takes up to 1,200. Those are the honest working numbers rather than the theoretical maximum: the figure that matters at a wedding is how many people can reach the buffet without queueing into the mandap, and that is what these are based on.
Why an Open Lawn Works for November to February
Vadodara evenings between November and February sit in a range where guests are comfortable outdoors all night, which is exactly why the wedding season falls there. An open lawn in that window needs no air conditioning and no tenting, so your budget goes into decor rather than climate control. For a daytime function in the same season the lawn stays usable well into the afternoon because the palace and the mature trees on the compound throw shade across a good part of it.
Baraat, Mandap and Stage
The baraat enters through the main gate off Old Padra Road and comes down the drive, which gives the procession a proper run rather than a cramped turn in a car park. The mandap normally sits centrally on the grass. For the reception the stage is placed against the palace itself, because after dark the lit ochre facade does the work that a backdrop would otherwise have to do, and it is the single most photographed thing at every function held here.
The Reception Lawn After Dark
A wedding reception lawn has to do a different job from a ceremony space. The guests arrive in waves rather than all at once, they move between the stage, the food and their seats all evening, and almost every photograph taken has the building behind it. Ours is laid out for that: the stage goes against the lit palace facade, dinner counters run along one edge so the queue never crosses the receiving line, and there is enough open ground in the middle for people to stand and talk without blocking anyone.
It is worth saying plainly that an open lawn in Vadodara is a seasonal decision. From November to February it is the best room in the city. In May, or in the monsoon, the hall is the honest answer and we will tell you so.
Parking, Power and Catering
100 vehicles park inside the grounds with valet staff attending, so guests are not left looking for space on Old Padra Road. A generator covers the full event including lighting and sound. Outside caterers are welcome and our staff coordinate service on the day. If the weather turns, or if you want the ceremony indoors and the reception outdoors, the air-conditioned banquet hall is on the same property and can run in parallel.
